POETRY: TRANSFORMATION AND TEMPTATION:  One of my favorite poems that I've written is a story about the journey a caterpillar must go through in order to become a butterfly.  As if the process is not hard enough, the words of the lying serpant tempt the caterpillar to give up. GOD:  REASONS TO BELIEVE:  One of the most unique Hubs that i've written was written as a pair with another Hubber with whom I usually end up on the other side of the coin when it comes to beliefs.  But I appreciate that we are able to converse is a honest and respectful manner.  He wrote of bad reasons people cite for their belief in God.  I wrote of good reasons to believe in God.  The reasons may not be the common ones you usually hear!  To read this Hub, CLICK HERE.

ABOUT ME!

.THE PAST: (written by the part of me that likes to rhyme)

It seems there was an elaborate plan to eliminate me before I was even born.  I was only hours away from being aborted, when my mom received a mysterious call that stopped her from walking out of the house that day.  There were plenty of accidents available to me as a child.  I remember falling down from the top of a concrete staircase when I was just under two years old.  Instead of landing on the concrete floor, I fell just right and happened to land on a rubber tire that was thrown under the stairwell a few days before so it could later be sold.  And then came the appointments with death.  I was in second grade when my first close friend died.  She was hit by a car—and it was the first time I was too shocked to cry.  People around me continued to depart in tragic ways throughout my high school and college years.  I wondered how I'd managed to escape the many times I ended up in unsafe circumstances, through my tears.  Even though I journeyed through the shadow valleys of loss, depression, anger, and fear, I somehow ended up on the mountaintops where I found joy and could see clear.  Even though a boyfriend was killed, a fiancée was taken away, and the one I thought was "the one" closed the door, I found the man that is now myhusband, whom I cherish and will love forevermore.  Although the job that I thought would be mine for the next forty years laid me off with a thousand more, there was opened before me doors I would never have thought to have walked through before.  Things are not always what they seem.  This journey has taught me who I really am.  The elaborate plan to eliminate me had been foiled—so here I am! There was another plan, even more elaborate and with more power,  Thank you God for putting people in my life who prayed for me daily and watched over me each hour—and thank you for assigning to me those who were unseen, but who were definitely there as a shield and strongtower!  Thank you for leading me from darkness to light.

THE PRESENT (written by the part of me that just likes to tell it like it is)

Today, the world may look at me with curiosity and wonder, "Why is she doing that?"  I used to have a full-time job in the publishing industry with great pay and awesome benefits.  I quit to teach a 6th grade class at a private school that was in desperate need of a teacher--I was the third teacher of the year for those kids.  I was barely making any money and the job was quite challenging but I have no regrets.  The kids in that class were worth more to me than a large paycheck.  And wait until I write some Hubs on what happened that year!  I saw transformation take place in those that others said would never change.  It's amazing how lives can be changed when there is one willing to get into the mess and demonstrate compassion and speak truth, balanced with grace, and rooted in love.

At Work

When I knew that my time for full-time teaching was over, I sought part-time work elsewhere because I knew I needed more time to devote to what I felt I was called to do next. This baffled many because I took another large pay cut and gave up what some called "the security of a good, stable job."  Here's a quick note on security--it can't be found in a job!  My time was finally freed up to develop my calling.  I took a job teaching part-time and began an internship with a ministry that I believe truly and authentically demonstrates the mind, heart, and hands of God. I was privileged to serve as Director of Education and to help launch a pilot program for a new way of "doing school" which focused more on cultivating a lifestyle than building a ministry.  I've now stepped back from the administration of the school in order to cultivate my calling as a writer.  If there's one thing I've learned about writing, it's that it requires a lot of time!

 At Home

My husband and I started off in a teeny, tiny apartment and didn't have much in terms of earthly possessions.  But as we've relied on and followed God, we've seen Him provide time and time again, even when by natural means it looked like we were stuck.  My dream is to make a living primarily through writing and teaching.  No matter our job title, my husband and I know our identity and our true calling. We don't have cable TV, but we have shelves full of books and journals full of ideas and dreams. Mr. Fred Rogers once said:  "Life is deep and simple, and what our society gives us is shallow and complicated."  My goal is to live the "deep and simple" life.

Why I Write

Mr. Roger's words also define what I aspire to write.  I write about that which I feel is worthy of my time and yours.  I search for the hidden "meaningful" beneath the surface distractions.  Writing is one of the mediums through which I hope to reach out and share with others what I've learned thus far on this crazy journey called life. Knowing about information is worth a little. Experience is worth more.  But truly understanding truth and living it out experientially- that gives one revelation-and it is from this platform that I hope to share.  I consider the things that I've learned that have been transformational in my own life, and that often becomes my subject matter for what I write.  Sometimes I write stories or articles that I think will be helpful; other times I write poems, and even prayers.  I've even written a prayer for the one who does not pray.  At times I attempt to articulate that which is hard to understand.  I've recently posted a biography about what of the most inspiring men that I know--the story of his life has touched mine deeply!  I am especially passionate about writing content that brings others into an experience of FREEDOM.  I seek to write about Truth, for it is the Truth that setsfree.  I try to write in a way in which I honor others, even if we have different understandingsabout what is true. I believe we can learn from one another if we can become good listeners.  As I seek to find others' revelations on the important things of life, I hope that you, too, will be encouraged by the revelations that twist and turn and echo throughout my writings.

Personal Information:

My undergraduate degree is in Elementary Education and I have a Masters Degree is in Spiritual Formation and Ministry from Wheaton College.  My freelance work is currently focused on writing for educational publishing companies, but I'm trying to expand my genre and am working on trying to publish some children's stories and some books on spirituality.  Although I am a freelance writer, I wear many other hats--Teacher/Trainer, Curriculum Writer, Counselor, Wife, Daughter, Friend, Aunt, and Sister.

THE FUTURE (written by the oh-so-very-philosophical part of me)

There is no future—there is only now!  I try my best to live in the "eternal now" because that keeps me from getting too caught up in the "tomorrow" that is always a day away and just beyond my grasp.
